Copyright and fair use are the crucial laws that help prevent the theft of other people's ideas. Copyright is when you take someone else's brand, logo, slogan or any other piece of artistic work, and claim it as your own. Fair use is the doctrine that permits limited use of copyrighted material. In order to use material that has been copyrighted by someone else, you must follow the fair use policies. As a teacher creating your own instructional material, it would be important to copyright the material in order to prevent others from profiting off of your work.
