Assignment number five was very interesting to me, because although I have made PowerPoints before, I have never made one that operates in a non-linear way. It was kind of fun adding all the buttons that take you to different parts of the slide show, and I will definitely be using this function in the future. The only part I disliked was how tedious it became to add the navigation buttons on each individual slide. I wish I knew of a way to automatically add the previous, next and home buttons to each slide after the table of contents. Overall, assignment 5 was one of my favorite assignments yet.      Since I hope to teach high school age students, I will use data surveys to help me understand the best way that different students learn information. The way students learn varies greatly depending on the subject and grade level. For example, 9th grade students in a standard algebra class will have a completely different learning style than 12th graders i...

My experience in EME2040 has been unlike most of my courses at FSU. I am in the asynchronous section, and what I have found most interesting about this course is how it is formatted. Most of my asynchronous courses in college are typically formatted in the same way; there are small assignments due every week, and then 3 unit tests periodically throughout the semester, followed by a final exam. I have grown very comfortable with test taking and have relied on it to get good grades. Because this class is strictly assignments, and the assignments tend to be a little lengthy, I get behind on work, and since there aren't tests, I have no way to really bring my grade up. The instructor has been super helpful and I can tell that she genuinely cares about this class. I just need to have better time management skills in order to be successful in a class with this format.       Open educational resources (OER) are learning and teaching resources that are availabl...

After a google search I found a particular elementary school that had lots of teachers with their own page. On my specific example, I used Ms. Brewer, who is a P.E. coach for Timberlin Creek Elementary school. On her page, she had a small paragraph about her teaching philosophy and what she hopes to accomplish with the children while they are with her. She also talks about field day and how the process of choosing a theme for field day is very inclusive.     My main use of technology professionally will be via communication. In today's modern age, the most effective way to communicate information is through the use of technology. I will use platforms like kahoot! to communicate information to my students in ways that are fun and easy to understand. I think one of the most important aspects of teaching is keeping your students engaged and technology is one of the best ways to do so.     This was my first time using PB Works and I had no ...

I first downloaded twitter my freshman year of high school. At the time I only used Facebook and Instagram, so Twitter was a very different vibe. I was very overwhelmed and confused when I first got Twitter and because of this, I rarely used it and eventually deleted it. My senior year of high school I tried to give it another shot. My second attempt went much better and Twitter eventually became my main source of social media. I used Twitter to interact with different news accounts, gaming accounts, and celebrities/athletes that I enjoyed following. Twitter could be beneficial in my future career by allowing me to stay up-to-date and connected to the world.     The digital divide is the gap between those that have access to technology and those that do not. In today's modern age, not having access to technology can negatively impact a student's ability to learn because they do not have access to the same amount of resources as other students putting them a...

I chose to look at the ELA standards for grade 8. These standards require determining the meaning of unknown words or phrases using context clues such as affixes and root words, and knowing how to use resources such as dictionaries. It also talks about knowing how to use different technology such as the  internet to learn new information, and using those tech skills to present that information via PowerPoint or another multimedia medium. Overall, this grade level emphasizes kids finding ways to gain information on their own about topics they have not been taught.     I decided to look at the 8th grade social studies resources and tools and found a very interesting activity. The activity is centered around getting the kids to understand the difference between fact and opinion, and how different perspectives can help us understand why certain historical events occurred. The activity specifically talks about the Salem Witch Trials, and how the very religio...

Copyright and fair use are the crucial laws that help prevent the theft of other people's ideas. Copyright is when you take someone else's brand, logo, slogan or any other piece of artistic work, and claim it as your own. Fair use is the doctrine that permits limited use of copyrighted material. In order to use material that has been copyrighted by someone else, you must follow the fair use policies. As a teacher creating your own instructional material, it would be important to copyright the material in order to prevent others from profiting off of your work. It would also be very easy for students to cheat if your material was on the web for anyone to access.      Technology implementation issues are the problems created by the rising use of technology, that were not an issue before technology was implemented in education. Two of the most prominent issues are academic dishonesty and cyberbullying. The best way to prevent academic dishonesty in an onl...
My name is Jackson Greene. I am a fifth-year student at FSU. I have played baseball here for the last 3 years and will be competing in my final season this upcoming spring. I enjoy film and gaming as well as the outdoors. I spend most of my free time either gaming or watching movies.     The only real experience I have using technology in an educational setting is through FSU. When covid closed down universities and schools in 2020, resorting to online learning was the only option. I have taken strictly online courses since covid and have become pretty familiar with how they operate. I am also currently taking a computer programming class and it has been interesting to learn about technology on a deeper level.     My personal learning network consists of snapchat, tik tok, and GroupMe. I don't have any other social media other than these three apps, and I get all of my information from them. I follow several differe...
