My experience in EME2040 has been unlike most of my courses at FSU. I am in the asynchronous section, and what I have found most interesting about this course is how it is formatted. Most of my asynchronous courses in college are typically formatted in the same way; there are small assignments due every week, and then 3 unit tests periodically throughout the semester, followed by a final exam. I have grown very comfortable with test taking and have relied on it to get good grades. Because this class is strictly assignments, and the assignments tend to be a little lengthy, I get behind on work, and since there aren't tests, I have no way to really bring my grade up. The instructor has been super helpful and I can tell that she genuinely cares about this class. I just need to have better time management skills in order to be successful in a class with this format.
Open educational resources (OER) are learning and teaching resources that are available to the public. They can be instructional texts, media, or other digital assets that are used for teaching. Websites like Khan Academy and YouTube are great examples of educational resources that are open to the public for free, and can be used by parents, teachers, and students. One resource that I found is OER Commons. It is a dynamic digital library and network that anyone can use to find textbooks and other material that might be useful in teaching or research. https://www.oercommons.org/.
Assignment 4 was probably my favorite assignment thus far. I have used PowerPoint in the past, but I have never created a full presentation with audio like we did in assignment 4. The hardest part for me was picking a topic, but once I chose the water cycle, I actually enjoyed creating a PowerPoint to break down the different aspects of my topic. I was reminiscing back to grade school when teachers would use similar PowerPoints to explain how the Earth works. At first, I did not like using my own audio over the PowerPoint because hearing yourself talk is never fun, but once I finished the whole presentation, I was pleased with how everything turned out.
