Blog Journal 10
Assignment number five was very interesting to me, because although I have made PowerPoints before, I have never made one that operates in a non-linear way. It was kind of fun adding all the buttons that take you to different parts of the slide show, and I will definitely be using this function in the future. The only part I disliked was how tedious it became to add the navigation buttons on each individual slide. I wish I knew of a way to automatically add the previous, next and home buttons to each slide after the table of contents. Overall, assignment 5 was one of my favorite assignments yet.
Since I hope to teach high school age students, I will use data surveys to help me understand the best way that different students learn information. The way students learn varies greatly depending on the subject and grade level. For example, 9th grade students in a standard algebra class will have a completely different learning style than 12th graders in an AP Calculus class. As a teacher, it is very important to understand that students come from different backgrounds and circumstances, and tools such as data surveys are crucial in determining the best teaching methods.
The blog posts I found most interesting to read was everyone's introduction blog. I liked reading about everyone's background and its cool to see why everyone decided to take this class, and what their future plans are. I also enjoyed reading everyone's reaction to certain assignments and comparing their experiences with my own. It is nice to see that other students are having similar feelings towards this class and its assignments.
So I actually haven't done much with the tech-flex feature that this class offers. As a result, I do not have any badges to my name, and I will be unable to benefit from their presence. I do think it is a cool feature to have in any class. Being able to do optional work to receive tokens is a very neat way to allow students to really take control of their own grade in this course.
The tech related skill I am most excited to learn is coding. In today's world, computers are crucial to everyone's survival and prosperity. Coding is basically the language computers use to communicate with it's user. Without coding, the internet would be no where near where it is today, and I am excited to see how the next generation of coders will change our world. Since the use of computers will only grow as they become more advanced, coding will continue to be a very relevant technological skill.
